Two airlines are expanding nonstop service at Charleston International Airport to three destinations in June.

  • Dallas-based Southwest Airlines is now offering daily service to Denver through early August, after offering weekend-only routes since early April.
  • On June 7, Southwest will boost its frequency to Baltimore-Washington International from three to four flights per day.
  • That same day, United Airlines will add a third daily rotation to Houston, offering more connectivity between the oil-rich Texas coast and the historic Holy City.

The jump in routes follows the recent expansion of several other carriers serving the Lowcountry.

Alaska Airlines added a fifth weekly flight to Seattle in March while Delta Air lines tacked on a daily flight to Boston and American Airlines added Chicago O’Hare and a third daily connection to Dallas-Fort Worth in May. Southwest reinstated daily service to St. Louis in early May and added a second daily flight to Nashville.

Frontier Airlines, which started serving Charleston in February, increased its service in May to Chicago O’Hare, flying twice a week on Monday and Friday. It launched nonstop service to Austin, Texas, and Trenton, N.J., in April, after earlier adding Denver and Philadelphia to its itinerary in February. Las Vegas-based Allegiant started serving the Lowcountry in April with uninterrupted flights to Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. United tacked on a nonstop flight to Cleveland on Saturdays in mid-April through June.
