Coming Home to Classic Charleston
by: Shayne Garcia
There are certainly more than just a 10-finger count of living havens – may it be in Asia, the Middle East, European coastlines and Americas – for you to experience differing culture, arts, architecture, gourmet food, and recreation. Nonetheless, from South Carolina stems out one city that has all of these – richly historic, flavored for its exotic gifts of nature, and entirely a celebrated haven all in itself – Charleston.
Richly Historic
Charleston is a 300-year old city, which stands with grandeur in the northern breast of the Atlantic Ocean. Founded in 1670, Charleston vividly sustains its memories of triumph and darkness. The beautiful lowcountry homes 95,000 residents and prides itself to almost 3 million tourists from all around the world every year. Charleston is considered to be the third most popular tourist destination in the United States, and the second largest historical district (Vatican City being the first). Since 1931, when the first Preservation Zoning Ordinance was approved, Charleston has been a vanguard of maintaining its historic architecture and landmarks from color to brick designs, from height to every plain detail. Contrary to that of other cities where urbanization and commercialization never cease, Charleston remains classic to its soul. The lowcountry initiates infrastructure preservation endeavors at all extents, as hardworking and expensive as they are. Some of the most well-loved Charleston memoirs are Drayton hall (located at 3380 Ashley River Road), the only plantation that survived the Civil War, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens (located at Route #4 Highway 61), considered as the oldest best-maintained garden, Charlestowne Landing (located at Highway 171), situates the first settlement for Charleston’s first peoples, and the 232-year-old Charleston Museum, America’s first museum.
Flavored with Exotic Gifts of Nature
Tourists from around the globe would often sigh about the magnificent gifts of nature to Charleston – its simple and clean avenues (never vandalized with big advertisements and stick-on posters), which are utterly side-dished with freshly scented tree barks and fat bushes. Alongside are Charleston’s crisp breeze, buttressed by richly planted gardens and well-maintained pollution controls, its famous waterfronts, plantations, and gardens.
Accommodating water-lovers, the Charleston County Park is famous for its one-stop nature trip. Facilitating fishing piers, ports, waterparks, marina centers, and beach parks, tourists enjoy the leisure of experiencing aqua-biology. Kids also enjoy the Charleston Country Park for its educational camps and classes, which are regularly packed with zealous toddlers and young adults.
If you wish for solemnity, a romantic dating place, or the perfect spot to spend quality time with your family, Charleston Waterfront Park bodies a gorgeous appreciation of the lowcountry’s flora and fauna. A classic Charleston afternoon sky can umbrella families on picnic blankets or tables, kids playing frizbee, and couples sitting on freshly-cut green grass while watching the breathtaking waterfront.
For adventurers and thrill-seekers, Francis Marion National Forest is the spectacular experience they should never miss in Charleston. A full ground of rare flora, old and newly bred trees, and interesting species inhabit the 250,000-acre ‘kingdom.’ Visitors spoil themselves with the forest’s ineffable Mother Nature scent, camping trips, hours of fishing, hiking, and boat routing.
Truly all of nature’s glory – sitting prettily in Classic Charleston.
Classic Charleston – the Celebrated Haven in itself
Indeed, classic for its centuries-old magnificence, exotic for its richly flavored nature spots, and celebrated because people all over the world ‘celebrate’ its glory for the longest time; this is the equation where only Charleston becomes the sum. Everything about this lowcountry sets it apart from the rest of the world’s historic and scenic treasures. It always becomes a home to anyone who spends time with its rivers and grounds. It is what the world never gets tired of talking about… throughout the classic, contemporary, and modern times – whilst it be until infinity.
