James Island

"Real Lowcountry Living"

James Island Real Estate Quick Facts

Being the only unique triangular sea island in Charleston, James Island is nicknamed as "Jim Isle." Famous for holiday activities, events, farming, fishing, shrimping, surfing, the island boasts much of Charleston's real lowcountry pride. You will find the island framed by Wappoo Creek and the Charleston Harbor to its north, and the Morris Island and Folly Beach to its east. You will also find the famous Stono River and Johns Island to its west.

James Island's role in the Civil War is very well remembered. The island served as the "starting line" of the war on April 12 1861. On its northern shore, the Confederate forces at Fort Johnson fought against the Union-occupied Fort Sumter. Together with Morris Island, James Island also shouldered much of the war's clashes.

Until the 1960s, the island remained predominantly rural. Now, it is a residential suburb, relinquished by the natural beauty of lowcountry winds and ancient live oaks. There are great tourist attractions, one of them being the James Island County Park. It has the Splash zone, which has waterpark amenities such as slides, showers, and great recreational pools. The island also prides its classic Carolinian homes, living through ages of timeless elegance and simplicity.
